We are planning for our market garden to start producing from spring 2026.

Summer 2025: The greenhouse/ potting shed is in place! We used second hand windows from a local restaurant, and polycarbonate sheeting as the roof. The second hand glass shelving came from the Hebridean Whale & Dolphin Trust. The greenhouse is equipped with a propagator to start off the seedlings.
October 2025: The pigs have done a great job on the outdoor beds and removed all undergrowth. We have sown green manure on the smaller outdoor bed. In the winter we will add more animal manure and seaweed to put more nutrients in the soil.
December 2025: Thanks to the Crofting Agricultural Grant the polytunnels are 80% funded! Ross from Kodiak Forestry came to remove the stumps on the old forestry site. Arran has put up the polytunnel frames with help of family members. Now we are waiting for a dry spell to put the skins on. When the weather turns warmer we will be able to tension the skins so they sit snuggly around the frames.
What is next: We will install a tank and irrigation system to be able to water the gardens. A small metal shed will be built for storage and preparing veggies for sale.
